The 40th Day

In Sri Lanka, Muslims commemorate the 40th day since a persons' death with prayers and alms givings. Gihan and Fati Samaranayake held 40th day rituals for Fawzia at their home in Ragama, attended by Fawzia's aunt Thai and cousin Shan. Photos are from Ragama.

Roy also conducted a similar ritual at his home in Motntgomery Village, Maryland.

The Braine family has been supporting St. Joseph's Home for Elders in Marawila, Sri Lanka, for about 40 years. When she got cancer, Fawzia sought prayers from the nuns who run the home. She visited the Home regularly and made donations. On the 40th day, the 150 elderly residents of the home were provided breakfast, lunch, and dinner in Fawzia's memory.

The photo, taken in July 2009, shows Fawzia with the then Mother Superior, Sister Maria (since deceased) and the current Superior Sister Maris Stella. These Sisters were very fond of Fawzia.
